Glacier is the developer and manufacturer of an AI recycling robot intended to help materials recovery facilities (MRFs) tackle the labor shortage in the waste industry. While bulk sorting robots have been utilized in MRFs, precision sorting using computer vision is still relatively new. Despite MRFs using robots, most still require humans standing next to a conveyor belt and hand sorting waste once it’s passed the bulk sorting phase. Hand sorting is an undesirable task that results in a high (500%+) employee turnover rate. Glacier’s AI-enabled recycling robot, which is 70% smaller and 60% less expensive than major competitors, helps MRFs solve for the labor issue while also providing better efficiency and ROI for MRFs in the process.
